Most clay cleansers are masks in disguise — they strip because clay keeps absorbing long after the oil is gone. This one is buffered: 8% milled multani mitti in a mild amino-acid surfactant base, with glycerin holding water in the skin while the clay takes up sebum. It rinses grey, which is the clay leaving, and it should never leave your face feeling tight.
Wet the face. Take a coin-sized amount and work it into a light lather.
Massage for 30 seconds, avoiding the eye area, then rinse.
Morning and night. Follow with the serum while skin is still damp.
Fuller's earth, milled fine enough not to scratch. Takes up oil.
An amino-acid surfactant. Cleans at skin pH instead of above it.
Humectant. The reason it does not strip.

I grew up with multani mitti packs and always liked what they did for oil, but every clay face wash I have bought since made my cheeks feel like paper. This one does not. It still rinses off grey, so the clay is definitely there — it just stops.
